Bridge on Arcadia

Bridge is the world's most popular partnership card game, known for its deep strategy and complex bidding systems. On Arcadia, you can play Rubber Bridge against sophisticated AI opponents, partnering with an AI teammate.

Whether you are a seasoned expert or a beginner, our Bridge implementation provides a premium experience with smooth animations, helpful hints, and a full scoring system.

How to Play

  1. Bidding Phase: Players bid on how many tricks they think they can win with a specific suit as trump. The highest bid becomes the contract.
  2. The Opening Lead: The player to the left of the declarer plays the first card.
  3. The Dummy: The declarer's partner lays their cards face-up on the table. The declarer plays both their own hand and the dummy hand.
  4. Trick Playing: Everyone must follow suit if possible. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick, unless a trump card is played.
  5. Scoring: Win tricks to fulfill your contract and score points. Win two "games" to win the rubber.

Core Rules

  • The Deck: A standard 52-card deck is used.
  • Ranking: Aces are high, 2s are low. Suit rank for bidding is No Trump > Spades > Hearts > Diamonds > Clubs.
  • Contract: A bid of "1" means winning 7 tricks (6 + 1). "7" means winning all 13 tricks.
  • Vulnerability: Once a side wins a game, they become "vulnerable," which increases both bonuses and penalties.
  • Doubling: If you think the opponents cannot make their contract, you can "Double" to increase the stakes.

Strategy Tips

  • Communication: Use your bids to tell your partner about your high card points and suit lengths.
  • Draw Trump: In most contracts, it is wise to "pull" the opponents' trump cards early so they cannot trump your winners later.
  • Count Cards: Keep track of which high cards have been played to know when your lower cards have become winners.
  • Watch the Dummy: Use the visibility of the dummy hand to plan your entire line of play after the opening lead.

Tips

Strong play usually comes from tempo, risk control, and converting small advantages.

  • Play lines that keep your options open.
  • Protect key assets and avoid overextending.
  • Force your opponent into predictable responses.

FAQ

Is this Rubber Bridge or Duplicate Bridge?

This is Rubber Bridge, the classic social format where the goal is to win best-of-three games.

Can I play with real people?

Currently, this version of Bridge is single-player, allowing you to play with and against AI bots.

What does "Vulnerable" mean?

In Rubber Bridge, a side becomes vulnerable after winning their first game. Bonuses for making contracts are higher, but penalties for going "down" are also much more severe.

How do I win a "Game"?

A game is won by any side that scores 100 trick points. Trick points are only earned from successful contracts (points above the line for overtricks do not count toward a game).
